The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey #2) - Julie Kagawa

*Rating:* 4 out of 5

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.
Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

After reading the first book of this series, I just could not wait to pick up the next one. Because of this, I had high expectations for this book, and for teh most part, my expectations were met.

The book takes place right where the first one left off; with Meghan being prisoner to the Winter Court and Queen Mab. I have to say that I love all the characters of this series. They are all so amazing and realistic that it's hard to hate any of them. However, Meghan's obsession with Ash in this book didbegin to get on my nerves. I mean, I get it, she loves him and its a forbidden love and all (when is it never not?), but seriously, stop the whining. I was having New Moon flashbacks from when Edward left and Bella *shudders*; how Bella would wake up screaming in the night like she was being ripped apart. Everytime I read/watch New Moon I want to slap her silly. But any who, speaking of Ash, (now that I got off subject :D) I grew to kind of like him in this book. Honestly, it's hard to choose between Ash and Puck, so I see Meghan's dilemma, but I'm more on Puck's side. I tend to always root for the underdog/best friend, plus he's so sweet and funny. So if Meghan ends up with Ash, she can most definitely send Puck my way ;)

I think Meghan grows as a character in this book. She starts figuring out more about herself and becomes more confident and strong. She becomes a heroine you want to look up to, which makes me love her even more. It's much better to have a strong, female lead then a weak, whiny one who can't do anything herself.

It bugged me however when she...alright, well can't say anything without it being a spoiler, but for those of you who have already read the book, then you know what I'm talking about. The little scene between Meghan and Puck...I was all, 'Awwwwwww! :3 But then she had to go obsess over Ash again and I was all, Grr! Make up your mind already! I mean like seriously, she's got a perfectly good guy in front of her who is totally in love with her, but she's thinking about the one that keeps trying to kill her. :/

Ironhorse is a major role in this book. At first it annoyed me how he always talked LIKE THIS, IN ALL CAPS. It felt like he was yelling at me throughout the whole book. But after a while, I got used to it and it didn't bother me as much :) I was sad that Grim wasn't in this book as much as the last one. He is probably one of my favorite characters.

One of the things I really love about this book, and the rest of the series, is how it's written. Kagawa uses such extravagant descriptions that I feel like I'm being sucked into the world of the NeverNever. There are few books I have read that have made me feel like I'm there with the characters, so that's a major plus for Kagawa! The story itself was unique and imaginative; very enjoyable. It's full of action, but also has the love triangles we all seem to love so much.

So, if you're reading this review and you haven't read this series yet, read it NOW! It's really amazing, and surprisingly, it does live up to all the hype its been receiving. The end has left me with a thousand questions and thoughts. I was actually screaming, I can't believe this!...(in my head of course), during the last few pages.  Looking forward to Iron Queen
